A Sailor Does Not Try To Change The Tides. He Navigates The Ones He's Been Given To The Best of His Ability.
People often want to be in a different situation. They wish they had different parents, different influences growing up, and often attribute it to bad happenstance. They’ll argue that growing up with more positive circumstances would have propelled them to a brighter future.
Let’s delve into another perspective, one that is both more gentle and practical. First, realize that circumstances unfold the way they do, and there’s often little we can do to prevent that. But, what we can control is our reactions to them. The power is not in the circumstance itself, it’s within you.
Just as the sailor navigates the depths of the oceans by accepting the strength and direction of the waves, we must navigate the waves of life with the same malleability. We can use any situation to learn from and overcome, not by fighting, but by wise action.
Both ancient wisdom and modern neuroscience back this concept up. Trying to change everyone and everything to behave the way you want them to never works. It just causes more friction and irritability. What does work is observation and wise action.
Put the control back in yourself. You’ve overcome so much already. Train your brain to deal with any situation with calm resilience. This is true power and freedom.

Such a good reflection, and so true. One of the most empowering things we can do for ourselves is take radical accountability for our own lives.
We may not be able to control the circumstances and people around us, but we have full control of our choices and responses to them. Once we realize that, we can be unwavering and unstoppable.
